The kitchen: the heart of the home. Over time, it has evolved from simply being a central gathering place to a multifunctional hub. It remains a casual yet nostalgic space for the cook, evoking fond memories of parents’ and grandparents’ kitchens and the elements that made those spaces special.
Today’s kitchens serve a multitude of roles—they are not just where meals are prepared, but also where we juggle tasks as a makeshift office, host formal gatherings, and share intimate conversations and lighthearted banter. It’s a space where daily life unfolds, blending practicality with a touch of personal history.
In this project, our client sought a seamless connection with the Annisquam River while managing daily life with three young children. To achieve this, we relocated the kitchen from the rear to the front of the home, featuring a large granite island with white oak surrounding cabinets and a charming eating nook. We elevated the kitchen design to feel elegant, yet playful for everyday use with purposeful storage for everything to be put away when entertaining.
